Product Review: Real Madrid Home Jersey

Recently I had the privilege of receiving a 2012/2013 Real Madrid Home Kit in long sleeve from the folks at Soccer Pro and I have to say I am impressed. I have quite a few jerseys in my closet, mostly Real Madrid, but this one has to be the best, and its not just because it was free! What really got me about this jersey, my first long sleeve one, was that it was not just something to wear on match day. You could wear it in mens league game, such is the quality of the material, the fit and the versatility that the long sleeves give you. Id much rather wear my favorite teams jersey in a pick up game in the park rather than a plan black Under Armor t-shirt.

Soccer Pro’s description of the jersey is right on par with anything I could come up with: The white is clean, powerful, and bold. Dark navy accents are found on the neck and sleeves, while the iconic three adidas stripes go down the shoulders. Light blue trim around the sleeves and v-neck collar are an additional touch new to the 2012 offering. The Real Madrid crest on the chest, La Liga patch, and the badge celebrating 110 years of Los Blancos football are all proudly on display as well. The long sleeves will keep you warm, while adidas ClimaCool technology ensures you stay dry and comfortable all match long.

The ClimaCool material has come a long way since its inception a few years back and you know how a shirt that both keeps you cool and warm simultaneously. Those are opposing ideas folks, but Adidas made it work. My own pictures are below, click on them for larger versions:

The badge is crisp and you can see the slight vertical lines in the jersey which are a nice touch

I am pretty sure you can see my nipple underneath the shirt (the picture is upside down I know!)

You can see where your favorite players name could go. I couldnt choose a player so I left it blank like all of my jerseys.

This patch is really cool and has a historical significance which makes this jersey special

        The idea is very simple. Messi won because he broke a record great it is deserving, but when it was argued that Cristano should have won last season because he also broke a record ( it was a record too the first player ever in Europe to score 40 in season in top 5 league is A RECORD regardless you like it or not, it is a historical record) people said too bad for Cristano on collective sport trophy, then this season Cristano had a better collective season wise in relation to Messi ( not including iniesta a) because who are we kidding iniesta, xavi who ever is third is there to complete the set of 3 b) because Mata for example had more trophies and assists than he did in 2012) and to prove this point further the record holding individual Muller that Messi won his ballon d’or for, didn’t win ballon d’or in that year.
        
        So please there is no argument over this award because there is no criteria for it, nothing zero criteria, and useless argument.

        I brought up the assists because both players were tied on goals for that season, goals seemingly being used as some kind of barometer in judging who the best players in the world are (not something I necessarily agree with as I’ve previously mentioned!) @Brendan seemed to be saying that Cristiano outperformed Messi on an individual basis in 2010-11 which you can only really claim if you count only league goals as a measure of individual performance. If Cristiano had won the Liga and CL (or Euros) last season then maybe he’d have taken home the shiny golden ball…although according to Revista yesterday “team success” isn’t in the Ballon D’Or criteria…
        
        I have an even simpler idea – more international captains, coaches and journalists believe that Messi was the best player in the world over that 12 month period!

        There is no specific criteria used to judge the winner of the award. The winner was the result of the belief of coaches, captains, media that who had been the best player in the year past. A lot of assertions about the criteria used to judge the winner have been proposed by the nominees’ fans in support of their favorite player’s advantageous profiles, i.e., you argued that Ronaldo should have won this award in the season that he broke the record of being the first to score 40 goals in a season. Yet, the rest of the world might have thought that this was insignificant if compared to Messi’s record of scoring most goals in a year. Also highly possible, the rest of the world might have taken into account the number of assists made when they couldn’t decide from the number of goals scored. If you really want to compile a comprehensive list of the true criteria used, you would need to ask every coach, every captain, every media that participated, individually. Even if you make the impossible possible, chances are you would regard FIFA Ballon d’Or as a popularity contest.
        
        Conclusion: You can whine however you want, but the prestige and credibility of the award won’t change. Same goes to the result.

      With only 9 goals more than Messi “in the league”, I don’t think Ronaldo as an individual in the 2010-2011 season undoubtedly outperformed Messi. What’s more, Messi finished the league season as the top assist provider with 18 assists. The same can’t be argued for what had happened in the previous season for Ronaldo.

If we played like this from September, we wouldn’t be 16 point off the top! Celta wasn’t an easy opponent at all. This is the second game in a row in which we start off with a bang scoring in the opening 2 minutes and then playing with 10 men, very reminiscent of our successful runs in the last two seasons. Again, the team showed hunger and drive.

I don’t want to dwell on the Iker story anymore than I already have but this the Casillas we all want to see, perhaps benching him really forced him to bring out the best in himself. He was calm, composed, focuses and very stern in commanding the backline. If he keeps this up, Mourinho won’t bench him even if he takes a leak on his car.

Man of the show was simply Cristiano, truely a legend! 5 goals in less than week! Modric, Ozil, Carvalho and Khedira all hand great performances although the latter pisses me off when he keeps the ball for a bit longer than he should while he thinks what he should do with it! Ramos’ ruined the night, I do feel his kick was intentional; he certainly could have avoided it.

I’m still not pleased we’re playing without real fullbacks, Essien was caught out of possession quite frequently and Arbeloa cannot get the job done at this level; I also felt we also looked a bit distorted without a left winger.

Our vice captain is an immature child! Ramos is facing a longer suspension because of the trash talk to the ref after he got booked! Was that necesary? Pepe is out injured and Varane isn’t 100% but Ramos adds insult to injury and curses the ref!         tbh, 5 game suspension (1 for red + 4 disciplinary) was a tad lucky, Sergio Garcia of Espanyol recently got 4 for calling the ref a “scoundrel” as did Ramos, except our vice captain spiced it up with a series of F bombs and repeated abuse of the assistant refs. I think he got off easy.

Anyway, the story is Apparently, Toril asked club for some new recruitment in the defense line up of Castilla team and Florentino asked Mou if he will use Nacho for the first team in the second half of the season and Mou considering Marcelo and Coentrao fit for the second half of the season.. decided to give Nacho to Castilla for the second half of the season except for the occasional call ups like they do at Barca B. That is why Nacho wasn’t called up for yesterday’s game it seems. Morata should stay at Castilla and prove what he can do too.. Both Higuain and Benz are fit. At least for now.

Morata playing all last season as an winger is suddenly not being able to perform as a striker for both Castilla and first team now. He was the golden boot winner two years back with Spain U-19 side in the Euro’s where he played as a striker. He needs to be back banging with the striker role again by this 6 months hopefully.

God we miss Pepe very much. Was watching the highlights from yesterday’s match. Khedira scored a goal and no one even congratulates him. My pepe would be first to celebrate everyone’s goal like he has scored it. May be he doesn’t get many to score, that was the reason or a forward always feels sad that he did not score the goal and may be they have to be like that. But the way a team congratulates the goal scorer give him the world of confidence. Get well soon Pepe.

I received a kit for Christmas. I’ve been collecting one every year, so the time I’m 40 I’ll have an entire room walled with Real kits to watch my Real Madrid matches. I always get a name on the back but I’m very picky about my selection. I wait until a player has established and/or won a trophy at the club. This year it was Xabi Alonso. Last year it was Ronaldo, who must be disappointed at losing out to Messi in the Balon d’Or again. There’s a good write up about the two here.

Am doing my utmost not to look at the league table and form sentences with the number 16 in them. I was encouraged by the first half performance against, OK only Celta, but with no recognisable full backs.
I enjoyed seeing a midfield of Modric Xabi and Khedira although Xabi was sorely missed second half – surely his renewal is up there in importance with that of the great man himself. Lost count of how many euros have been spent on finding a replacement without success and he’s been off form for the first part of the season.
Let’s just pray that Carvalho and Verane rise up to the challenge and show their best versions

Is Coentrao proving to be a huge blunder of a signing? Not that he’s performed badly, but for the price we paid for him (money plus letting go of Rodrigo who is easily worth 12+m) you expect more. Problem is, it seems more of a disciplinary issue than anything else. Misses/late to training, gets punished by the club. Especially when he is needed now more than ever

Barca should have sold him when opportunity arises. As for Neymar, I applaud his talents but doubt if he will fit well with the rest of the team, both in-and-out of the field.
